Supporting Mental Health and Wellbeing
At our school, we place a strong emphasis on supporting children’s mental health and wellbeing, recognising that pupils learn best when they feel safe, valued and understood. Positive, respectful relationships between adults and children are at the heart of our approach. Staff take time to get to know each child as an individual, creating a nurturing environment where pupils feel confident to share their thoughts and feelings.
Each classroom is equipped with a Regulation Station, providing pupils with practical tools and strategies to help them manage their emotions and return to learning quickly. These spaces promote independence and self-regulation, enabling children to develop lifelong coping skills.
We also offer Listening Ear, a dedicated provision led by a specially trained teaching assistant. This provides children with a safe, supportive space to talk through worries or challenges, ensuring early support is in place when needed.
For pupils who find the playground overwhelming, a lunchtime club offers a calm, structured alternative where children can play and socialise in a quieter environment. In addition, our Year 6 buddies play an important role in supporting younger pupils during playtimes, helping them to build friendships, feel included and develop confidence.
Through these approaches, we create a school environment where wellbeing is prioritised, support is readily available, and every child feels a strong sense of belonging.
