£2 school lunches this Summer
Dear Parents and Carers,
We are writing to let you know about a trial of our school meal offer for the Summer term, starting from 13th April.
We know that cost and meal choice are key factors when families decide whether to use school lunches. We also want as many children as possible to access a healthy, balanced meal that supports their wellbeing and learning.
As a result, we will be trialling a reduced price for paid school meals, alongside menu updates shaped directly by parent and pupil feedback.
What is changing
- The price of a paid school meal will be reduced to £2.00 per meal for the summer term trial
- A revised menu has been introduced, developed in response to survey feedback
- Meal quality and standards will remain the same despite the price reduction
The updated menus, which can be seen below, also include a number of improvements made by Mellors, including:
- A daily pasta bar added to increase variety
- New range of desserts alongside regular favourites, yoghurts and fruit
- Taco Tuesday is here to stay!
- Pizza Monday will now be a Pizza Bar to give more variety
- Family favourite Lasagne now a regular feature
- French fries as alternative to chips alongside our range of Friday Fish Favourites
- An expanded range and fresh bread on the help-yourself salad bars

We have also listened to wider feedback about the lunchtime experience:
*You said you wanted better communication about menus and which week’s menu is being served. We will add the menu as a standing item in our weekly newsletter, with a text reminder going out each Friday
*You said children would benefit from a visual menu to help them make their choice at registration. This term, we will introduce a photo menu to support children in making their lunch selection.
This is a trial
This is a time-limited trial for the Summer term. The reduced price is only sustainable if meal uptake increases significantly. The trial will be monitored closely, and if uptake does not reach the required levels, the price may revert.
What we need from parents
If you would like this trial to continue, we need families to support it by choosing school meals more regularly.
