From next week, we would ask that children do not use pens with ink erasers. This is for a few reasons. Firstly, we are finding that when teachers identify an error whilst marking, children are then rubbing out the error and correcting it - thus making it seem as if the teacher has wrongly marked something incorrect. Secondly, we want to be able to see initial errors and misconceptions children have, so we can clearly see where they have improved and now understand. We also think it's important children understand that mistakes are an important part of learning - not something to get rid of altogether.
Apologies if you have bought your child one of these pens. We are happy to provide pens and other stationery in school.
