Please Monitor Children's Social Media
Dear Parents/Carers,
I am writing to all parents today to implore you to check your children's social media and communication devices regularly.
I have written to some year groups already this year with specific concerns about inappropriate behaviour, and I asked that you remain vigilant in checking children's online activity.
Unfortunately, this week I have been made aware of some videos circulating in some children's WhatsApp groups. These videos can only be described as toxic. They are full of swearing, derogatory language, inappropriate imagery and violence.
If children regularly watch this kind of material, it is entirely possible they will begin to demonstrate these kinds of attitudes, language and behaviours in their real life social interactions.
Whilst at Primary School, children are below the age limits of apps such as WhatsApp, TikTok and Instagram. If you choose to allow your child to access these apps anyway, we ask that you carry out regular basic checks, such as checking browser history, monitoring group chats, checking apps that look concerning.
Please speak to us if you are concerned about anything to do with online safety.
