Rare Disease Day 2023
Last month, we were asked by one of our parents if we would consider celebrating Rare Disease Day in school as it is an issue that is close to their family.
In the video below, one of our year 5 stars, Alfie, speaks about his condition and how it affects his life. We were astounded by his positive mindset and the way he so articulately talks about his condition.
We showed this video in all classes and several of the children expressed that they were pleased to learn more about Alfie as they had been unsure about asking, which led to some great discussions about ensuring everyone is included and how we can support those around us.
All children then wrote a pledge, explaining what they personally can do to support their friends who may have little-known conditions that affect their lives. These are currently on display in the main school hall.
We are really proud of the children's contributions today and hope you enjoy the picture and Alfie's video.
