Staff absence update - Information for year 2 and 3 Parents.
Dear Parents of Children in Years 2 and 3,
I am writing provide an update with regards the ongoing staff absence in year 3, and the implications of this going forward.
Unfortunately, Mr Redfern remains unwell and will not be returning to school at this time. This means that Mrs Ridley will continue to teach year three.
While Mrs Ridley has moved to teaching year three full time, Mrs McCarthy has of course taken complete charge of year two. Before Mr Redfern’s illness, Mrs McCarthy worked two days a week out of class, carrying out her Deputy Head duties. She has not been taking these days up to this point – she has only taken her PPA afternoon, which is a statutory entitlement for all teachers.
This term, Mrs McCarthy will take Monday and Wednesday afternoons as management and PPA time. This is necessary in order for her to be able to fully carry out her job as Deputy Head. While she is out, Miss Dickson and Mrs James- Dicken will take the class. Miss Dickson is employed by the school as a teaching assistant, but is a qualified teacher. In year six, where she worked previously, she had daily experience of whole class and small group teaching, as well as carrying out interventions and pastoral groups. Mrs McCarthy will continue to plan all lessons for year two.
I will monitor the impact of this change to ensure year two are not being adversely affected. Please do contact me if you have any queries or concerns.
Kind regards,
Miss E Wilson
Headteacher
