The Great Fire of London...in Alrewas!
This afternoon, year one got to witness history being re-created before their very eyes...sort of!
as part of their History topic on the Great Fire of London, the children have been making Tudor/Stuart style houses in the full knowledge that they were going to be going up in smoke! This afternoon, we went down to the Forest School area and re-created Pudding Lane, the original location of the fire. One house was selected to represent Thomas Farriner's Bakery which was the very spot that the fire first broke out.
The children were excited to see how the flames spread and linked this to their learning of the materials that would have been used in house building at the time. There was a bit of a breeze this afternoon (not too strong, fortunately!) which also prompted discussion about spreading fires.
This was a lovely, hands-on activity for the children to have taken part in - we hope you enjoy talking about it with them.
