Pony Club!

The children may have come home talking about 'Pony Club'! Before half term, I was asked by a group of three girls if they could start a pony club in school. They talked enthusiastically about their ideas and we discussed how this could work in school.

J - "We want to meet so we can talk about and share what we know about horses. We are going to plan activities about horses."

B - "I really like horses and I want to share with others what I know. We are going to learn fun things about horses."

This is a child led initiative (for year 4 children only) and the girls are organising activities in their own time. Miss Budden and myself will be monitoring activities and supervising the children in the classroom at lunchtime on Wednesdays (after children have eaten their lunch). Please note - 'Pony club' will be cancelled if there isn't adult supervision available and the children are aware of this.

'Pony club' met for the first time today!

A - "We shared books about horses and completed word searches. Next week we are going to have some horse and pony themed colouring."

Welcome to Year 4 – Rick Riordan!

Our class name is ‘Rick Riordan’, it was chosen because “being a hero doesn’t mean you’re invincible, it means you’re brave enough to stand up and do what’s right!”.

Class Teacher – Mrs Lewis

Year 3 and 4 Learning Support Assistants – Miss Beaumont and Miss Dickson

Within this letter, are some of the routines and expectations we encourage in Year 4. We would appreciate your support in promoting these and hope that you find this advice helpful and informative. We look forward to working in partnership with you and your child this year!

Our Day

8:45 am: Learning begins! The gate will be open from 8.35am and children may come straight to the classroom from this time ready to start lessons at 8.45am.

10.30am-10.45am: Morning Break

12:15 pm: End of morning session.

1:00 pm: Afternoon session begins.

3:15 pm: End of school day. The children have been reminded not to leave school if they cannot see their adult, please inform us if somebody different is collecting them from school.

Reading:

Children will read in school, both as an individual and in groups.  We also ask that children aim to read for 10 minutes each day at home and complete at least 3 reading entries but aim to complete 5 as part of their homework routine. The children will be shown how to complete a reading entry in order to help their understanding. We value your contribution too, please record any comments or questions regarding your child’s reading in their diary.

Children are welcome to select books from the library or choose their own from home. Those who are not quite ready for free reading will continue with the school reading scheme and progress through each stage until they have acquired the skills needed to make the transition. If your child is not a free reader, in addition to their self-chosen book they will also bring home a banded reading book, these will be changed once a week on a Monday. Books should be brought into school every day.

Homework:

Homework will be set in order to consolidate children’s learning and understanding. We ask that you encourage and support your child to complete these tasks. By the end of Year 4, children are expected to know all of the times tables facts up to 12x12; they will complete the national multiplication check in the final summer half term. Regular practise will ensure they are prepared and any games they can play at home to learn and quickly recall times tables in random order will support them. Additional Maths homework will be uploaded on to ‘My Maths’ every Monday. Spellings will also be set on a Monday, children should learn these ready for a spelling quiz the following Monday.
