PSHE & RSE
Welcome to the PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic education) page for All Saints' CE Primary Alrewas. As a vital part of our curriculum, PSHE is designed to foster values such as respect, love, forgiveness, a sense of community, thankfulness and trust among our students. We believe that instilling these values from a young age is crucial in nurturing well-rounded individuals who are prepared not just academically but also socially and emotionally. Our program is tailored to help children understand and manage their own emotions and behaviours, and to respect and care for others. By integrating these core values into our teaching, we aim to provide a supportive and inclusive environment for all students, ensuring that they thrive in their personal development and learning.

RSE
In line with the DfE Relationships Education statutory guidance and model curriculum, RSE in All Saints' school is taught through a clear, age-appropriate progression that focuses on relationships, wellbeing, and safeguarding. Teaching begins with understanding families, friendships, kindness, and respect, and develops gradually to include managing emotions, recognising boundaries, online safety, and understanding how to seek help and stay safe. By the later primary years, pupils are prepared for the physical and emotional changes of puberty in a factual, sensitive way. Lessons are inclusive and reflect different family structures, cultures, and beliefs, promoting respect for others. Parents cannot withdraw their child from Relationships Education, as this is compulsory for all pupils. However, they may request to withdraw their child from the non-statutory sex education elements that go beyond the statutory science curriculum. School communicates clearly with parents about what will be taught, ensuring pupils continue to learn in a safe, supportive environment where they feel confident to ask questions and develop the knowledge and skills needed for healthy relationships now and in the future.
EYFS
PSHE in Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is not a separate subject but is woven into the Prime Areas of learning, especially Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED), focusing on self-regulation, managing feelings, building relationships, and understanding the world. Through play, stories, and daily activities, children develop crucial skills like cooperation, empathy, resilience, self-care (healthy eating, hygiene), and understanding rules, forming the bedrock for later PSHE learning.
KS1
In Key Stage 1, PSHE covers Health & Wellbeing (healthy bodies, feelings, safety, sleep), Relationships (friendships, families, respect, bullying), and Living in the Wider World (community, rules, digital safety), teaching foundational skills for healthy lifestyles, positive interactions, and understanding their local environment. This is implemented through the use and adaptation of the ‘Twinkl Life’ scheme. These topics build a foundation for children to become healthy, safe, and responsible individuals, often delivered through a progressive curriculum that revisits themes with increasing depth year on year.
KS2 In Key Stage 2 (KS2), PSHE covers Health (physical & mental), Relationships (families, friendships, respectful interactions, puberty), and Living in the Wider World (safety, digital literacy, money, careers, discrimination, global issues) to build resilience, self-esteem, and essential life skills for secondary school and beyond, incorporating statutory Relationships & Sex Education (RSE) and Health Education. Through these topics, children develop crucial skills like critical thinking, decision-making, teamwork, empathy, and self-management, preparing them for future challenges.
PSHE and Safeguarding
At our school, PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education) is closely aligned with our strong approach to Safeguarding. Through PSHE, children are supported to understand how to keep themselves safe, both in school and beyond, and to develop the confidence and skills they need to navigate the world around them.
PSHE lessons provide a safe and supportive space for pupils to learn about topics such as healthy relationships, online safety, managing emotions and understanding boundaries. Children are taught how to recognise situations that may make them feel uncomfortable or worried, and—crucially—what to do if this happens. We help pupils understand that it is always okay to ask for help and show them who they can talk to, both in school and at home, if they feel unsure or unsafe.
To enrich our PSHE curriculum further, we work with a range of external professionals who bring real-life expertise into the classroom. Visits from local PCSOs help children learn about personal safety and the role of the police in our community, while workshops delivered by the NSPCC support pupils in understanding how to stay safe and speak up if they are worried. Together, these experiences help ensure our children feel informed, empowered and protected.
