I will aim to respond to emails between 8am and 5:30pm during working days.
Homework is given out weekly in year 6. It is both given out and collected in every Friday.
For Maths this will often be in the form of an activity on MyMaths, however we will also be using the CGP SATS books to set activities for the children to complete as the year progresses. We will also set weekly spellings to be learnt at home. These spellings will be tested on a Friday.
Please encourage your child to read as much as possible outside of school. It would be useful for all children to read a range of genres and authors over the course of the year as this will develop their knowledge and understanding substantially. We expect all children to complete at least three reading entries per week and hope that children in our class will aim even higher than this and possibly target five entries per week. Children who complete five entries will be given five house points and children who complete three entries will be given three house points.
Our P.E. days will be on Tuesday (Indoor P.E) and Friday (Outdoor P.E). Children are allowed to wear suitable P.E kit to school on these days and remain in their P.E kit all day.
The autumn term is a very exciting one in year 6! We are studying the topic ‘WW2’ during the first half term. During our ‘WW2’ topic we will look in depth at how the war began and the key events leading up to the beginning of the war. In addition to this we will focus on learning about key events such as 'The Blitz', the failed plan for Germany to invade Britain and the role of women during the war.
This term, we will be reading Louis Sachar's book 'Holes’ and extracts from other stories such as ‘When the Sky Falls’ by Phil Earle. Using these books, children will be producing pieces of writing in a range of genres.
Spelling homework - due in 06/10/23:
co-operate, co-ordinate, co-author, co-own, re-examine, re-evaluate, re-energise, re-elect.
Children will (sometimes) have another 5 spellings to practise at home. These spellings are chosen by the children from spelling mistakes they have made in their English books or in a spelling test and will be recorded in their spelling homework books.
Please take a look at our blog below to see what we have been learning!
